How to use
You can absolutely use both exfoliating AHAs and anti-aging Retinol in your routine at the same time!
START WITH RETINOL
Use Double Play 3 times a week nightly for two weeks. Once you feel your skin has a good handle on Double Play, begin to increase frequency to max once nightly. Don’t forget your sunscreen!
ADD BABY STEPS EXFOLIATOR
Gentle AHAs can further enhance skin texture and tone while using reitnol. Once you feel like your skin has a good handle on Double Play, you can choose 1 of 2 methods to add Baby Steps to your routine:
- Nightly booster: Add a drop of Baby Steps into your hydrating serum and mix well to apply. This can be done 3 nights a week up to nightly before using Double Play.
- Once a week home peel: Apply Baby Steps directly onto the face post cleansing, avoiding the eye area. Leave on for 10 minutes before rinsing off. You can skip Double Play on this night.
Pssst...did you know?
Although retinol and AHAs can cause skin to shed, both tackle very different mechanisms in skin. This is why a good routine utilizes both retinol and AHAs to tackle a multitude of skin concerns: dullness, texture, wrinkles, tone, etc.
Ingredients List & Actives Profiles
You shouldn’t need a degree in chemistry to take care of your skin. But, to be clear, someone needs the degree.
0.3% Encapsulated Retinol
The chemists searched high and low for just the right encapsulated retinol, because there are plenty of duds in the encapsulated retinol space. Double Play contains 0.3% active retinol that is tested to be stable inside our airless pump tube for its entire shelf life.
2% Haloxyl Complex
A timeless peptide blend that strategically targets eye area concerns. 2% haloxyl alone has been clinically tested to have a significant improvement in dark circles after 8 weeks of use.
30% Gluconolactone
PHA’s are bigger molecules, making them a gentle alternative to AHAs. Despite its gentle nature, gluconolactone has shown benefits in combating the effects of photoaging on skin. Curious about the deets? Learn more here!

Retinol has been a longtime fan favorite anti-aging molecule. And for good reason! As a cosmetic ingredient, retinol is one of the few that has decades of research and data behind its efficacy. In fact, this is why in our book, Skincare Decoded, we refer to this active as one the Big Four and stands alongside the champs, ascorbic acid, AHAs, and niacinamide. There’s a (relatively) new chemical exfoliant in town – PHA (poly hydroxy acid) gluconolactone! It’s no secret that we love our AHAs (alpha hydroxy acid). These chemical exfoliants are tried and true ingredients, and we’re big proponents of them being used as staples in anyone’s routine to tackle anything from dry skin to wrinkles. That said, the gold standard AHA glycolic acid is not really made for everyone. For many people, glycolic acid may simply be too aggressive, leading to irritation,...
